What about the bridges near Niagara Falls? John Roebling built an early suspension bridge at this site in 1855. It played an important role in the Underground Railroad leading up to the American Civil War. #history #bridges #niagara #suspension #civil #engineering #bridge

Was Oroville Dam close to collapsing in 2017? No, it wasn't. The dam wasn't in danger. #damtok #dam #oroville #civil #engineering The solution was to keep running the damaged but functional spillway to lower the lake level. But they chose not to, and more damage was the result.

Why can't we take 10% of the Mississippi River and re-fill Lake Mead and Lake Powell? You COULD. But how do you plan on moving that amount of water? It would not be practical to pump water in large volumes from the Mississippi to the high desert of Utah or Arizona.

How big of a solar power plant would be needed to power a canal that moves 10 percent of the Mississippi River to Lake Powell? Answer: HUGE. #lake #powell #mississippi #colorado #river #canal #dam #dams #damtok

The Eads Bridge in St Louis was the first use of deep water caissons in the world. The technique of building bridge foundations underwater revolutionized civil engineering, and paved the way for all the big bridges of the 20th century. #bridges #civilengineering

Klamath River Dams, part 3. If you could solve California's water crisis and energy crisis by sacrificing one river, would you do it? #Klamath #river #ahpuh #california #water

The two most important dams on the Klamath River are not being demolished. The Link River Dam and the Keno Dam both supply irrigation to 240,000 acres of farmland. #dam #damtok #teamhydro #undamtheklamath #klamathfalls #yurok #modoc #history #civilengineering

We solved climate change 100 years ago when we invented hydropower. Then we solved it again when we invented nuclear power! #climate #change #engineering #teamhydro #teamnuclear #renewable #energy
