Sam was a football NAIA All-American at Henderson State (HSU).and was named All-AIC on both offense and defense. He became one of Arkansas’ most successful high school coaches at LR Parkview. He won state championships in 1974 and 1976. 2007 ASHOF Inductee.

Joyner was a three-time All-American in track for ASU. During his senior year, he ranked #10 among the world’s triple jumpers. In the 1984 Olympics, he won the gold with a jump of 56 feet, 7 ½ inches and had four of the five longest jumps in the Olympic finals. ASHOF in 2002.

Dean, a member of baseball’s Hall of Fame, won 30 games for the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals in 1934 and was the league’s MVP. Dean led the National league in shutouts (1932, 1934) and in strikeouts (1932-1935). Dean was born in Lucas, near Booneville. ASHOF in 1983.
