$5 million. From what I observe about undisclosed wealth in India every time I visit, this should clear out black money in India faster than demonetization. Also, the line will be longer than the one for the green card.

Glad to know that he thinks mangoes are not grown in the US. Even a 100% tariff won't convince me to eat the terrible mangoes grown in Florida.

Grateful for the little things: The annual checkup with my physician turned into a 45-minute conversation on the role of AI in our respective fields, the development of stablecoins, and how the world will meet energy demands rising from data centers.

Indonesia is doing something better than India. Between 1988 and 2020, India's informal employment % did not change at all, nor its inverse, wage employment %. By contrast, between 2001 and 2020, Indonesia did reduce informality & increase wage work.

Hanno Lustig Yes and no 😀 Yes: the Paul Ehrlichs of the world were completely wrong. And more than that: they were wrong for reasons they could have anticipated. Ehrlich’s book, for instance, misses basic demographic distinctions, such as a clear difference between CBRs and TFRs.

So the plan to revive American manufacturing is zero import duties on smartphones and pharmaceuticals, but 50% on textiles and jewelry? 😕

It's 2025, and in the US, if I want to transfer money from my Capital One checking account to my daughter's Capital One account, I have to use Zelle or some other third-party app. In India, transfers were instantaneous at least 10 years ago within and between banks.
