Annual dig a giant snow pit day up at Toolik Field Station in the Imnaviat watershed. The snow pit is to allow snow melt (water) to run through a weir so we can calculate how much water and when it is flowing out of the watershed.
While out monitoring plants today near Toolik Field Station I heard what could only be described as a bird mimicking a grasshopper. I knew there must be a bluethroat around but I did not have my binoculars. I went back and I found a handful of handsome bluethroat singing away in some willows.
Out installing eddy covariance towers for the year in the footprint of the old Anaktuvuk river burn scar. We fly from Toolik Field Station for this work.
Slowly but surely the tundra around Toolik Field Station Field Station is coming alive. Since Friday lots of snow has melted and the flowers have begun to pop.
