Can you guess how many wolves we captured?🦊 14 people, 10 days, 4 camps, 3 cars Read more about my most insane (but meaningful) fieldwork ever! Also wrote about what should lie beneath the word 'caring' — because I have so much to say and writing is way cheaper than therapy😎

When I look back at what we put our field cars through during the last field trip, I don’t even know how we made it successfully to the end… a miracle! All field cars know suffering… that’s universal fieldwork experience! What’s your worst field car story? 🎥 Abdi Samune

Just saying, the “Red Wolves” that Colossal Biosciences® said they cloned are also not Red Wolves. The Wolf Conservation Center issued a statement. In addition to the Colossal Biosciences®’s inaccuracies, I agree that creating individuals that will not make it in the wild is neither useful nor ethical.

Demers et al. on lemming sunbathing behaviour in spring. I was there the first year when this was noticed and I was so puzzled! Here is the answer 6 years later! "Spring fever: collared lemmings warm up above the snow despite predation risk" ➡️frontiersin.org/journals/ecolo…

❄️ When the weather turns up on the Sanetti Plateau, the #BaleMountains can start to look very polar! 🏔️ A real reminder that #EthiopianWolves are high-altitude specialists, here at over 4000m elevation. 🎥 Abdi Samune Adrien Lesaffre Sandra Lai @sandralai.bsky.social

Dr Dave Mech, who started in 1958 when the notion of a pack (family unit) didn’t even exist—"it was just a bunch of wolves together”—, on uncovering amazing movement capacities, hunting success rate and the ability of wolves to specifically pick out weak/disabled prey in a herd.

Prof Claudio Sillero on wolf species biogeography, threats and the way forward in Africa, going from the widespread generalist cryptic African wolf to the specialised endangered Ethiopian wolf and the “wolf proxy”, the painted dog (African wild dog). #WAB2025 #WolvesBorders

Dr Geraldine Werhahn on the incredible diversity of wolf species in Asia, where the oldest and least protected wolf lineages exist. An emphasis on increasing global awareness, shifting local cultural perspectives and how big cats can help Asia’s wolves. #WAB2025 #WolvesBorders

Prof Luigi Boitani’s brutally honest review on wolves expanding their range in Europe to areas never seen before and showing a high adaptation to human presence. “Let’s take the downlisting as an opportunity to do better science, better monitoring and better wolf management”

Totally biased by my behavioural ecologist background but the most interesting #WAB2025 talk today was by Martina Lazzaroni, with footage of an Italian wolf being totally spooked by a dog plush toy used to test reactions of wolves towards pet dogs. 😂 #WolvesBorders
