Curious finds on the drawing desk! This week, we are focusing on the most unusual objects we have had the opportunity to draw so far: a #Roman Iron shackle. #ArchIllu #drawingart #illustrationartists #specialfind #excavation #devilsinthedetails

Tip of the day☝: Always draw the most difficult objects first thing in the morning! That means anything that is heavily fragmented or fragile, heavily decorated or very distorted.#photovsdrawing #archäologischeillustrationen #archaeology #facts #archaeologicaldrawing #ArchIllu

All about ceramics! Sometimes there are only few remains of a vessel. Even a single shard can be enough to determine the diameter, which brings you closer to a complete reconstruction & an idea of the object's size. #ArchIllu #womeninscience #inkdrawing #potterylove #Archaeology

An exciting #Roman collection from Chiemgau in Germany! Alongside coins, over 600 artefacts were discovered, including weapon parts, keys & woodworking tools. Rarer objects were also found, such as medical forceps and an iron shackle. #ArchIllu #archaeologicalsites #drawing #ink

Roman #beauty care This smooth, polished stone bowl or palette was probably used to mix cosmetics made from pigments. Red ochre for rouge & lip balm & charcoal for eyes. Increasing trade meant that these goods spread as far as the #RomanEmpire #ArchIllu #archaeology #illustration

The sensationally well-preserved contents of a bronze urn from the 1st to 2nd century have arrived on our drawing desk. As the bronze & iron objects suggest, this is a so-called warrior burial – a sword, shield boss, spurs & this spearhead all point to this conclusion. #ArchIllu

#Roman cow bells served both practical & ritual purposes, their main function being to locate animals. They were also used to protect against predators. This was the cattle bell we ever had the opportunity to #draw – our job has lost none of its fascination! #ArchIllu #drawing

With this type of decoration, using a so-called roller stamp, tiny clay rollers are rolled over the surface of an unfired vessel, imprinting the relief into the still soft clay and forming a pattern.#archaeology #DidYouKnow #archaeologists #archaeologylovers #potterylove #urne

Here is a glimpse into our little creative team. After intensive research & discussion, the first drafts & ideas for the #StoneAge world are emerging-fire pits, tools, dwellings, people, animals & plants are being sketched, and of course, coffee is a must. #archaeology #ArchIllu

We are currently creating these & many other illustrations for a museum. They depict life, death & work in the #StoneAge. Among them are scenes of fishing, farming, as well as the fauna of the previous ice age. #commissionedartworks #workinprogressart #illustration #archaeology

May we introduce our rather secret, but not so quiet third team member: Edgar Elmo As the photos prove, there is hardly a drawing that is not created in his presence. Although he tends to work in the background, nothing escapes his watchful eyes. #ArchIllu #MeetTheTeam #CEO #pet

Shield bosses, spearheads & scissors The densely filled imperial burial ground at #Nienbüttel is located in Niedersachsen. Only male warriors were buried there. In addition to urns, the graves contained swords, shield bosses, spurs & spears. #ArchIllu #illustrationtask #challenge
