The tiger moth version of "Where's Waldo?". Can you spot the hindwings of this moth? They are vanishingly small, but they are there. This isn't the result of damage or a rare mutation -- they evolved to be this way. Likely to aid in mimicking a wasp. #arctiinae #nmnh

Another wasp misplaced among the tiger moths? Nope. This one has a "pseudostinger". Think it enhances wasp mimicry? Maybe, but consider: 1) only males exhibit this and 2) wasps with these giant ovipositors AFAIK don't defensively sting. Quite the mystery. #arctiinae #nmnh
