Continuing our A-Z of the Archives, here is an unusual item. See ‘O’ for Oil Slick Specimen. This bagged sample from the Eleni V was given at a Commons Science & Technology Committee in 1978. The oil tanker was pierced, releasing 5000 tonnes of fuel into the North Sea. #TowerA-Z

Absorbed by experiences of early Churchill Archives Centre staff inc first female archivist Patricia Ackerman - offered lower salary on her appointment in 1975 than male counterpart, and told this was because he had a wife and children! #ac50

What can the back of a painting tell us about the life it’s led? The over 100-year-old stretcher that backs Pablo Picasso’s “Three Musicians” helped our team discover details about the painting’s history and global travels. Go behind the scenes → mo.ma/499CsQx

We finish off our Tudor Tower Treasures with one of the big ones! The 1534 Act of Supremacy declared Henry VIII as the official head of the Church of England, displacing the power of the Pope who had denied Henry’s divorce to Catherine of Aragon. #TowerTreasures

Some things change and some stay the same. Back in 1957, this Assistant Clerk of the Records was checking through our Main Papers collection and these volumes are still the same today. However, the rolled records on the shelves now have more protective packaging. #TowerHeritage
