You can tell how much this administration values institutionalizing grift based on how often they do stuff like this. Their worldview is that there are grifters and there are marks, and that being a mark is the worst thing you can be, so being a grifter is good.

It really does suck that this just is not at all even remotely a dimension of the experience.

The most commonly held opinion about the Big Bad Bill - from Dems, Independents, and Republicans alike - is that they oppose it. Gutting Medicaid to pay for rich people’s tax cuts - while ballooning the deficit - just is not popular. But most people don’t know this is happening!

So many people are used to “regulation” and “unions” in the private-sector context that they don’t always appreciate the distinct issues arising when regulations *impede government capacity* or when unions are composed of *public-sector employees who organize to elect their boss*

Note that the 'tensions' are over 'how aggressively' to cut Medicaid — not *whether* to cut Medicaid.

This is not law enforcement. What indication does any American have of the legitimacy of the lawful use of force from any of these people? Why would a person’s first impulse not be towards self-protection?

This man supported America at great cost to his own well being, and lawfully followed the legitimate asylum process. We should be welcoming him into our country and thanking him for his service, not sending him back across the ocean to die in order to meet an arbitrary quota.

It's awesome that the Big Bad Bill, in addition to gutting Medicaid, also balloons the deficit so we can also gut Medicare and Social Security. This is a large part of why the Bill is so popular, and why Republican politicians are so eager to tell their constituents about it.
