Yorkshire is ablaze with colour from the wildflower meadows, which are at their peak right now. It's a great year for orchids in particular, so get out and enjoy the glorious meadows around Yorkshire this summer. 💜 ywt.org.uk/blog/wildflowe… #nationalmeadowday Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - North Yorkshire

What do we get up to after dusk? Torchlight surveying the River Foss of course!🔦We spotted some amazing wildlife - can you guess what the creature pictured is?😃 Clue: Its tail actually acts as a kind of 'snorkel' rather than a sting, so it can breathe in the water. A great start to the week with some fern and sedge ID at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Askham Bog with the fabulous Alastair Fitter. Some really rare plants seen, inc Crested Buckler Fern, Slender and Pale Sedge. Also, three lovely Lunar Hornet Clearwings came to the pheromone lure.

Setting off this year's survey season in style - creating a new crayfish ark site in the Derwent Catchment earlier this month. Great effort from everyone involved. Funding from Natural England Y&NL Species Recovery Programme.

Our new-ish scrapes at Low Carr near Pickering still holding plenty of water and are teeming with dragonflies this morning. Also, a few Teal, Snipe and Green Sandpipers. Amazing how much marginal and emergent vegetation is colonising the new wetlands.
