Tyrese Maxey: 1) 37% from 3 last season (down from 43/42), assisted on just 60% of his 3's. Both will go up. 2) Career high USG/AST+career low TOV%=playmaking leap. 3) It's reasonable to project more improvement with his age+low-hanging fruit paths to improve (finishing at rim).

People who don’t follow the Knicks likely come down too hard on Thibs, but it’s also misleading to post MPG #s with a full rotation as if that ends the conversation. If you want a good faith discussion, here’s a mini ep we had on Thibs at Hot Hand Theory youtu.be/cmqElC1kZOY?si…

Reminder; The Knicks outscored opponents by 13.6 pts per 100 possessions in almost 500 minutes of Deuce & Brunson sharing the court together. It would be a major disservice to him (and the team) to reduce his role to that of playing the minutes that Jalen Brunson doesn’t play.

We talk about this at HHT a lot; how do we weigh non-elite primacy against a purely additive, supporting player? There seems to be an underlying assumption that "doing more"=better but I'm not sure that's always the case. Here's a great convo we had with DJ on the subject:

One of my favorite conversations that's occurred at HHT. Unsurprisingly I add very little, but XJ and DJ are absolutely in their specific bags here doing what they do best. This subject is a macro theoretical one that will be relevant to NBA team-building for a long time.

Fun question because it opens an interesting can of worms about player profiles in 2024. There are plenty of bad teams that would gladly take him and try to maximize him, but the uncomfortable truth is there may not be an established good team setup to get the most out of Ingram.

It was a up and down rookie season for Gradey Dick, but I’m still a firm believer. A legitimate sniper (movement or standstill), w/ great size, high level feel, and a high motor. His 2nd half of the szn was highly encouraging to me. Here’s a 🧵of some of his best plays of the yr

NBACentral Or just listen to a 40 minute pod from a couple of NBA junkies on why two of these players might be poised to have All-NBA seasons! youtube.com/watch?v=a23ie2…

Barely a year in and we're getting tossed in with some unbelievable company. This is so cool! Keep with us folks we've got a lot of great stuff in store before next season starts

Is LaMelo Ball the next breakout star in the NBA? Xavier Justin certainly thinks so. Who do YOU think is most likely to make their first All-NBA team next season?

Frank Barrett (@frankbarrett119) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is HHT at its best here. XJ blends his unique understanding of various impact metrics with a love of basketball and film study.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm out on this perspective. I'm as pumped as anyone that Leon has established a foundation that Knicks fans can trust going forward, but if we've learned one thing about the NBA it's that it evolves rapidly. They can win THIS season. Go for it!

Frank Barrett (@frankbarrett119) 's Twitter Profile Photo

AOP_NBA Definitely not. The bottom of the East is really weak and they should expect meaningful improvement from Brandon Miller and Mark Williams. Josh Green could be a nice additive piece on the wing. Oh ya, and it's LaMelo Ball's time to break out according to Xavier Justin

Is Tyrese Maxey's playmaking flying under the radar? Frank Barrett thinks so. For those who don't know, last season Maxey's USG jumped from 23.7% to 27.4% and his AST% went from 16.6% to 25.7%. Yet despite this clear increase in role and burden, his TOV% was a career-low 6.9%.
