In 2012, a study recommended wages of $21.75/hr for staff in NB Womens shelters. With inflation, this exceeds $24/hr in 2020. Our salaries average between 56% and 75% of this amount. Essential work = fair wages. #FairWagesNB

Who will welcome and support women and children fleeing domestic violence if our shelters can’t find employees? Who will keep them safe? Who will help them rebuild their lives? Essential work means fair wages. #FairWagesNB

The salary of our staff should be around $ 24/hr in 2020. The funding model for shelters for women and children who are victims of family violence does not allow this. The Government of NB must agree to finance the sector at 100%. #FairWagesNB

Did you know: Shelters are often the first point of contact for women and their children fleeing domestic violence. We welcome women of all ages and from all walks of life. Violence does not discriminate. It strikes everywhere. #FairWagesNB
