Correct, amending the Sports Broadcasting Act to include colleges is required for super league proposals. Can also have super league that includes collective bargaining w/o employment if laws allow independent contractors to bargain (but employment is probably best).

Now that we know who the two co-chairs of the Presidential Commission on college sports will be (and what their views on things are), the commission needs to include some athlete advocates to be legitimate. Plus representation for P4 🏈 and 🏀 players and legal experts.

I tend to agree with Pat. The announced Presidential Commission on college sports only makes sense if it works on a model that allows all stakeholders a seat at the table. If it’s just an attempt to make things the way they used to be it’s not going to work.

Cody Campbell, co-chair of the new Presidential Commission on college sports, has written extensively on “fixing” college sports. He’s for paying athletes & makes clear he’s not a fan of the NCAA/P4 or giving them an antitrust exemption. He calls the NCAA a “cartel” & “broken.”

Another piece by Cody Campbell on college athletics. He says antitrust issues regarding labor (bargaining/nonstatutory labor exemption) & media (allowing schools to pool media rights) must be addressed. Says athletes deserve fair pay, but in a way that preserves Olympic sports.

Notre Dame has committed to grandfathering in all of its athletes who would be affected by the House settlement’s roster limits. I assume we’ll see other schools do the same (assuming the House settlement is approved with roster limits).

The interesting thing about the transfer portal is that you don’t have to enter it to actually transfer. So does it really matter when the windows are?

It appears Trump didn’t provide Congress with any notice of his decision to create the presidential commission on college sports. Which is somewhat surprising (or maybe not) since the commission can’t really do anything of substance without Congress passing laws.

Arizona is the latest state with a law that allows schools to pay NIL $ to athletes. The law also prohibits the NCAA from punishing athletes or schools if athletes violate NCAA NIL rules or for earning NIL comp. So another law that contradicts NCAA rules (current and future).

There is “positive momentum” for moving men’s college basketball from halves to quarters. Yes, please. Men’s college is the only level of basketball in the world with halves. I also like the proposed change to add continuation.
