People talk about NOT wanting to be political. Let’s unpack that.

Mental health is political. Who gets care, who doesn’t, and what “care” even means—these are shaped by policy.

Socioeconomic status is political. Wages, housing, food access, and generational wealth don’t happen in a vacuum.

Access to healthcare is political. From insurance coverage to clinic deserts—it’s not just personal, it’s structural.

Saying “I’m not political” is a privilege. It means the system works well enough for you to ignore it.

Education is political. Who gets well-funded schools, what gets taught, and who decides? All politics.

Race is politicized—even if you don’t want it to be. You don’t get to opt out of a system that never lets some people in.

Disability is political. Accommodations, supports, protections—none of that happens without advocacy and legislation.

Being apolitical doesn’t make you neutral. It makes you complicit in the status quo.

Voting isn’t the only political act. Speaking up, organizing, showing up—these shape lives too.

“Mental health shouldn’t be political.” Then why are services the first to be cut when budgets shrink?

“I just care about people, not politics.” If you care about people, you’re already in the political arena—whether you admit it or not.

Want to avoid politics? Then fight for a world where people’s basic rights aren’t up for debate.

If your humanity is up for debate, your existence is political.

Silence protects the oppressor, not the oppressed.
