The Permanent Secretary in MinofLands,Agric,Fisheries,Water&Rural Development, Obert Jiri today visited Musikavanhu and Chibuwe Irrigation Schemes in Chipinge District of Manicaland. The Schemes, rehabilitated under the Smallholder Irrigation Revitalisation Programme have a combined 1030 hectares with 948 farmers.

Professor Obert Jiri concluded his tour by visiting the recently rehabilitated Cashel Valley Cluster Irrigation Scheme in Chimanimani District. The 11 schemes, which include Svinurai, Mandima, Bolton, Quaggas, Ruwaka, Malaysia and Mutambara have a combined 600 hectares.

The scheme, rehabilitated at a cost of US$3 000 675 will benefit 799 beneficiaries. The scope of works included construction of diversion weirsand intake works,conveyance and secondary canals, night storage dams and infield piped surface and drag hose systems.

The Permanent Secretary in the MinofLands,Agric,Fisheries,Water&Rural Development, Obert Jiri visited Romsley Irrigation Scheme under Chief Chiduku in Makoni District. The 384 hectare Irrigation Scheme has 315 beneficiaries who include 97 youths. The scheme has not worked since before independence.
