In April Visalia Fire will have 7 Firefighter-Paramedics completing their required 12-month Probationary skill evaluations. The skills include hydrant operations, hose deployment, ladders, vertical ventilation, forcible entry and a scenario of responding to a downed firefighter.

On Friday the Golden West Academy of First Responders lead by Bill Wilson and supported by local First Responder agencies competed with multiple high schools and placed 1st place in all three categories of CPR/AED skills, simulated felony stop skills and fire technology skills.

Last week Visalia Fire Battalion Chief Hughes met with the Golden West Academy of First Responder students and demonstrated donning and doffing of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). This gives the students a chance to experience the conditions and weight of wearing them.

Last Thursday night Battalion Chief Hughes represented Visalia Fire as the Advisory Board Chairperson for the Golden West High Academy of First Responders and presented three Seniors: Evan Renteria, Caden Lawrence, & Ethan Holguin with $500 scholarships for college expenses.

Today was the last shift after 24 years for Fire Captain Alvino “Bo” Lopez. Bo served on many response teams and also on the Visalia Honor Guard. We would like to thank Captain Lopez for his dedicated service to our Department and the community. Good luck in your next chapter Bo.

On the morning of July 4th Fire Captain Miguel Oseguera retired from the Visalia Fire Dept. after serving the citizens of Visalia for 29 1/2 years. Miguel “OC” plans to spend his time with his kids and grandkids. He appreciated all the laughs and memories made in his career.

Visalia Fire Truck 55A crew assisted the American Warriors of California in paying their respects for a local soldier who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving our Country. SPC Bryant Morris served in the US Army recently passed and was brought home. God bless all our soldiers.

Yesterday evening members of the Visalia Fire Dept. had a retirement celebration for Fire Captains Alvino Lopez and Miguel Oseguera which was hosted by Simply Brewing. We wish them well in their next chapter of life after serving full careers for the citizens of Visalia.
