This study suggests that tumor size and grade is associated with long-term survival, and patients with larger tumors, lower tumor grades, and progesterone receptor–positive status experienced significant treatment benefit with receipt of tamoxifen therapy. ja.ma/3x2KeZz

In this cohort study, an increased platelet count was associated with an increased risk of cancer for at least 2 years. The results suggest that individuals with unexplained thrombocytosis should be offered screening for several cancers. ja.ma/3fWlbAO

I know we are *in* a pandemic, but have you asked how we can prevent the *next* one? Hot off the press— our work with *amazing* partners at IEDCR provides some insight on exposure to poultry and potential risks for avian influenza in urban Bangladesh /1 nature.com/articles/s4159…

There's some potentially very positive news coming out of South Africa on limited virulence associated with omicron. If that proves true it'll be absolutely excellent news. I think it's always a good idea to hope for the best and plan for the worst.

There is a rise in hospitalization (including ICU) due to the Omicron surge, but this is nowhere near what we would have seen with similar numbers of Delta. Mass vaccination & a less virulent variant are helping. Still have to keep a close watch on healthcare capacity...

RIP Sir David Cox 😢 An incredible giant whose contributions are inversely related to his modesty. Last time I saw him, he had just turned 94 on which I congratulated him. “Nothing special, it isn’t a prime number”, he replied. I’m glad he lived to 97 which is, indeed, prime.
