WATCH: This tiny van compartment was used in an attempt to smuggle seven people into the UK. The people-smuggler responsible – Anas Al Mustafa – was caught and, today, he was convicted. Traffickers don't care about the people they exploit, only their money.

Hundreds of rogue employers across the UK were targeted as part of a nationwide intensive operation to tackle illegal working. We are committed to stopping illegal employment and dismantling the criminal gangs that facilitate the exploitation of vulnerable people.

Five weeks have passed since violent disorder broke out on our streets - and we remain clear: Thugs and extremists do not speak for Britain and they never will.

Last week I was at Port of Dover and LeShuttle to see preparations for the new EU border checks – Entry/Exit System. The Government is providing additional funding to enable ports to install EES technology, get their sites ready and reduce the risk of queues at peak times.

The National Crime Agency (NCA), alongside our Bulgarian partners, recently seized boats and boat parts that could have led to up to 2,400 people making the deadly Channel crossing. We will be relentless in our work to disrupt people-smuggling gangs and save lives.

Anas Al Mustafa, a people-smuggler who attempted to bring seven migrants to the UK illegally, has been jailed for 10 years. People-smugglers value profit over lives. We are determined to bring them to justice.

People-smuggler, Joshua Bynoe has been jailed for trying to smuggle five Afghan nationals - including a five-year-old - into the UK inside the cramped storage space of a motorhome. We will relentlessly pursue those who try to undermine our border security and put lives at risk.
