Took me an embarrassing amount of time to catch up on this essay, but Jiayang Fan 樊嘉扬, as she always does, wrote the HELL out of this. Straight to the top of the list of the best pieces I've read this year: newyorker.com/magazine/2023/…
Skip the book and just read Rebecca Traister instead nymag.com/intelligencer/…
Because I feel selfish when I don't share recs of books I loved: Just finished Isaac Fitzgerald's wonderful DIRTBAG, MASSACHUSETTS. In particular, his essay "Maybe I Could Die This Way." I'll be thinking about one tiny clause in it—"Nothing happens in order"—for a long time.
Behind-the-scenes snap: In between some pretty important votes at the Capitol, Chuck Schumer made sure to hop on with the boss Julie Samuels about why it’s important we get AI regulation right. Thanks to Richard Buery, Jr., Alexis Ohanian 🗽, & the fab Robin Hood team for having us!
If your birthday wasn’t announced by City & State NY and POLITICO New York, were you even born? Thanks for all the well wishes, friends!
