Disappointing day, for sure, but one a lot of us saw coming. Banner season for Iowa....we’ll never know how it could have ended. Congrats to Sam Anas on leading the league in points (70) and Gerry Mayhew on being the AHL’s top goal scorer (39).

Keep in mind American Hockey League voting is done by coaches, players & media in all 31 cities & All-Star teams are selected by position. 39-goal scorer Gerry Mayhew (a right shot) plays left wing, as does Utica’s Reid Boucher (34g, 33a). Plus Iowa and Utica didn’t play any non-conf. games.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first time any #IAWild player has been named to the post-season All-Star teams in franchise history. I know it's the first time four players from the Wild have been named.

Congratulations to #IAWild goaltender Kaapo Kähkönen on being named by AHL Goalie of the Year. The Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award was awarded to Kahkonen who posted league-leading 25 wins and seven shutouts.#WellDeserved

Kahkonen said his growth this season was the result of familiarity with his surroundings in Iowa as well as having worked with former #IAWild goalie andrewhammond as well as #mnwild goalies Alex Stalock and Devan Dubnyk.

Kahkonen said he adjusted quickly at the beginning of the second season because he was more accustomed to speaking English and knew the community. "The next year, you come back all those kinds of things are much easier and you know what to expect." #IAWild

Of the season, Kahkonen said he had never played on a team that had as much success as the #IAWild this season. "When you win that many any games, you actually remember the games you lost a little bit more. But then we won a lot and that was fun."

A key game in Kaapo Kähkönen development was the 8-7 overtime #IAWild win over Stockton Heat 🍥 on Dec. 23, 2018. That game says a lot about Kaapo, the coaching staff, and the team's development. iowawild.com/news/detail/fr…
