Bertusnol 6:45-11:15 ZO2, mistig, later opgeklaard met af en toe bewolking. Duinpieper en ortolaan als krenten. Verder leuke trek van gele kwikstaart en wat steltjes: 46 watersnip, 11 witgat, 60 goudplevier, 14 bontbekplevier, 8 regenwulp en een zwarte ruiter.

Bosjes paal 21-24 met als klapper Bergfluiter gevonden door Niels van Houtum! Daarna zelf nog een Draaihals gevonden met Koen Stork. Verder 2 paapjes, blauwborst, tuinfluiter, 2 grauwe vlieg en redelijk wat algemeen spul.

Spring is slowly but surely getting on at Texel with territorial juv Goshawks, displaying Siskin and the first Pied Wagtail. Also a Rook (right, classic scarce early spring migrant here) and a hybrid Hooded x Carrion Crow (left) together.

A birding session on Schiermonnikoog, with finally some calm weather, resulted in this very welcome Pallid Swift! With the wind coming from the South for the rest of the weekend, can we expect to see more birds?

Some coburni Redwings on Texel today in atrocious weather conditions.

Yesterday's highlight was a hybrid Barnacle Goose x Tundra Bean Goose, with only 7 documented sightings in the Netherlands! In Westerwolde, eastern Groningen, where Bean Geese numbers never disappoint. With Rik Wever and Koen Stork. Watch the typical bill pattern of Tundra Bean.

First day of #DPWC24, managed 42 sp before the rain. Highlights being Barn Owl (last night), Yellowhammer, 19 Velvet Scoters, 5 Water Pipits, 3 Pochards and this German hybrid Caspian x Herring Gull!

Today was my first opportunity to bird on my patch (Koornwaard and Kanaalpark, Den Bosch, Netherlands) for the #dpwc2024. The main target was the young Penduline Tit found last year. Other highlights include a couple of Cetti's warblers, Firecrest, Bullfinch and Goshawk.

My first round of the year for the #dpwc2024 on my local patch in Groningen provided 48 species, with 2 Mealy Redpolls as the highlight (apologies for the pic!). Also the first winter sighting of European Stonechat. Dutch Birding Patchwork Challenge

Great morning on the patch yesterday, with this Mealy Redpoll and a White-tailed Eagle (Record shot, my arse); only my second self-found ever on Texel. With the arrival of a female Marsh Harrier, the total now stands on 101 species for the year! Patchwork Challenge #dpwc2024

For me, today was the first day with more than one YBW, with a total of four birds. Two of them were very cooperative: these birds can really transform a dull day into one with colour!
