My favorite question to discuss with students at the beginning and end of a math course: Is math an ART or SCIENCE...or BOTH? It's interesting to see how their opinions change as they have new experiences.

Instead of Algebra 1, 2, etc. I'm thinking more along the lines of Math for Physics, Math for Economists, Math for Statisticians, Math for Actuaries, etc. Most math is very specific to certain professions.
