Although I stated that I would like an independent person to undertake the investigation, we have now been told that the investigation will be carried out by the Cabinet Office. This is acceptable as the next best thing.

The terms of reference must be agreed initially and acceptable to both parties. All the persons who were involved in the case should be named by Nusrat Ghani and they must be interviewed. Any emails/texts should be produced and looked into

The Prime Minister would need to be interviewed to establish why Nusrat was sacked. We appreciate that it is his privilege to do so.

The full report following the inquiry would need to be in the public domain. Anyone who has behaved badly need to be held to account. Having done this we need to ensure that it does not happen again

I was pleased to host the The Ethnic Media Awards at London’s House of Lords. I am very glad that today we are recognising the achievements of members of the ethnic community in the field of media and would like to congratulate all the recipients of the awards.

I had a wonderful time having afternoon tea in the House of Lords with students from schools in Istanbul,Turkey. I spoke to the students about composition of House of Lords, Members of Parliament and the function of both Houses.

I invited Her Excellency Gurly Gibson-Schwarz, the Ambassador for Liberia, for dinner in the House of Lords. We met previously at a conference to strengthen the UK’s relationship with Liberia. I intend to build stronger connections with Liberia on trade and other issues.

I strongly welcome the expulsion of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following their comments.

I am pleased to note that in the statement issued by BJP, the following sentences are included: “The BJP strongly denounces insult of any religious personalities of any religion. The BJP is also strongly against any ideology which insults or demeans any sect or religion”.

I feel that we must ensure that India remains a secular state where all religions are respected and allowed to co-exist peacefully.

On Sunday 12th June, myself and many other dignitaries and guests attended the annual memorial held for the 53 Hindus and Sikhs from India who heroically lost their lives fighting for the British Armed Forces during the First World War.
