Rough version..It's like throwing a rock in the middle of a pool (earthquake). Waves decrease farther away from center. There are limited buoys in the ocean that can measure size of the waves & predict the timing of waves arriving across the ocean as they head toward land.

Portions of the Aleutian Islands have seen waves.
