It's been over five weeks, and we still don't know why Champlain Towers South collapsed and killed 98 of our dearest families and friends. Surfside has had a world renowned structural engineer hired since the beginning, but he's not allowed on the site. That's unacceptable.

Thank you Mayor Levine Cava for calling an August 30th meeting to discuss reforms and solutions related to the Surfside collapse. It is an important step in the right direction.

A 2:53am video I took sometime after my arrival recounts the horrific first minutes & hours we all spent on the collapse site. It is terrifying to see the devastating collapse, but at the same time, it's inspiring to witness our brave Police & Firefighters working to save lives.

The election was close and I am now, for the time being, the former mayor. However, I remain fully engaged in the effort to make and keep Surfside the quality of life destination that the entire world admires. I have been, and will continue to work with all our current leaders.

See if you notice that the FAA has completely changed the flight patterns of commercial jets leaving Miami's Airport. They used to fly straight out over the Julia Tuttle Causeway, M Bch and out to the ocean, but now, every single northbound jet flies over Surfside, 24 hrs a day.
