i work with people involved with the legal system and truly so much human suffering could be alleviated if you just gave people housing and a consistent source of income and food like it’s not hard

This is just the first domino to fall. Just got off the phone with somebody who said Circuit City is closing all stores in California next week.

Actually I expect my friends to disagree with me and hold me accountable. They are in my trusted circle of opinions I take seriously. If your friends aren’t safe to disagree with, they’re not your friends. Stop this culture of toxic positivity.

People wonder why younger gens are cutting themselves off from their parents and I'll tell you: it's repetitive cruelty from the parent. And if you're the parent asking "what cruelty??" you're either not listening or don't care. Which is more cruelty.

ppl are gonna get so mad at me (disabled, chronically ill, chronic pain) for saying this but it's rly like there's a disability community and then a disability fandom, and you rly gotta stay away from ppl who espouse the latter attitude bc they are SO MEAN

all the replies going “um obviously disabled kids will be accommodated; it’s the LAW” should hear about the time i had a legal accommodation to not do class presentations & my health teacher still forced me to do one anyways on a power trip. i fainted, hit my head, & she laughed.

When I was in school and left behind in a “real emergency” (it turned out to be a malfunction with a fire alarm) my mom called the fire department personally to make them aware of my existence as the only person in a wheelchair at the school. [qrt]

I quit my PhD because my advisor freaked out over me getting accommodations to get a standing desk (my final straw). I'm not a working scientist because of disability discrimination. The accommodations process for jobs hasn't been any easier.

Everything is contingent upon its utilization.

For all our convoluted theories in the psych-professions, the simple truth is that the main influence on our mental health is our circumstances, past & present - our work, realtionships, where we live, our financial predicament; whether we enjoy status, love, belonging & security

Even when I was "able" to work... My life consisted of. 1. Work. 2. Disability management. 3. Prepare my body for the next day at work. That was it. No social life, no hobbies, no free time... Not even at weekends. That's not a life anyone should be forced to endure.

I'm Grade A+, the kind that understands that Americans don't have castes, and came to the United States to get away from exactly this kind of thinking.
