This Poster for British Railways beautifully captures my beloved Kent. This is ‘The Garden of England’ by Frank Sherwin, from 1955. So perfectly depicting a Kent village at this time of year with trees in blossom and exactly how I think of the area…

Today is St Mark's Eve, the "spookiest day of the year after Halloween." Folklore tells us that the ghosts of those doomed to die in the coming year will join a "procession of the dead" from their local church between 11pm & 1am. Keep your eyes peeled if you're out after dark...

Small but striking, the Picasso Bug is nature’s own piece of abstract art. With bold green and black patterns, it’s named after the famous artist for good reason. Found in Africa, this colourful insect uses its patterns to confuse predators—a clever mix of beauty and defence.

Last week we were joined by London Square to publicise our Chelsea Pensioner Garden, which is being designed by Dave Green, with help from Chelsea Pensioners, for the Chelsea Flower Show. Sponsored by London Square, the garden will be installed in our grounds after the show.

Rural posties were often inspired by their routes to write poetry, paint, sketch or - as in the case of postman Idris Mathias - spend 17 years drawing a 60ft long map of his route along the River Teifi in Wales. See my walk · listen · create post at walklistencreate.org/2025/04/27/dis…

Traditionally, on May Day, celebrations included dancing around the maypole and crowning a May Queen. 🌺 The earliest recording of dancing around the Maypole was in Wales in the 14th century, and this tradition soon spread. 📷 Thaxted, Essex, between 1947-1955.

Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of forest bathing is such a lovely concept. In the cool woods this morning, I touched the springy soft moss on fallen branches and patted the gnarled bark of trees. The scent of wild garlic rose from snowdrifts of pretty white flowers.💚
