When I learned years ago that the LAX Metro Transit Center was costing $900 million to build, I didn’t understand how a light rail stop could be so expensive, and thought it was a massive waste Wow, was I wrong. They built a generational piece of civic infrastructure.

In some countries, like the UK, there’s a tradition of letting the party of any lawmaker killed in an act of political violence run unopposed in the by-election. It lets people know violence cannot change the balance of power. It would be good for the US to do this.
