We are on Maple Terrace in Shiney Row where a man was seriously injured by a dog at around 6.55pm on Tuesday. Emergency services attended the scene and the man – in his 50s – was taken to hospital with serious injuries.   A 44-year-old man was arrested.

One resident told me he is scared to walk his dogs whenever he sees XL Bully dogs in the area. He said he heard a commotion last night around the time the incident took place.

Police have confirmed that the dog was destroyed at the scene to ensure the safety of the public. A second dog was also seized from the address as a precaution.

Resident Linda Blyth, 56, said: "It is awful. It is just heartbreaking on both sides. You see it on the news where this kind of thing happens down south or abroad but never in a million years do you think it would happen here."

Police have confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched after a man, 54, was fatally injured by a dog on Maple Terrace in Shiney Row. A 44-year-old man has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.

Resident Michael Kennedy, 64, said he knew the man who had sadly died for around 20 years. “I want him to be remembered as a really good lad. He never did anyone any harm. He was a very caring fella. He didn’t deserve this. I’m heartbroken.”

Connor Clark, 23, and Rachael Barron, 31, have paid tribute to the man who has sadly died on Maple Terrace. Connor said: “People from around here all knew him. You couldn’t walk past him without having a conversation with him, he would stop and talk to absolutely everyone.”

One woman said she knew the man who had sadly died for years and was “heartbroken.” She said: “He was a lovely lad. He would do anything for anybody. Everybody is heartbroken. He was part of the community, everybody knew him.”
