Having a terrible experience with Emirates and priceline. Emirates cancels my ticket and tells me to contact Priceline for a refund. Priceline tells me to contact Emirates. It's like being stuck in a vortex. Worst customer service possible.

Over the past few years, many lenders have begun to rely on home appraisal algorithms. If algorithms rely on biased data, there is a real risk they could produce biased valuations. Today, we're establishing new anti-bias rules to regulate appraisal algorithms.

Prison doesn't just cut incarcerated people off from society. It cuts them off from their own futures -- even though 95% of them will one day be our neighbors. How? By making it too costly for people to maintain productive ties with the world while they're locked up.

Extremely hard to express the emotions right now. Absolutely heartbroken for the victims and their families, and for the City of Buffalo.

We need actual traffic enforcement when cars block bike lanes. People on bikes and scooters swerving into traffic to avoid cars blocking their lane doesn't make any of us any safer. Blocking a bike lane is one of the most dangerous things a driver can do. Let's act like it.

Pearly Young, 77, was killed today in #Buffalo shopping for groceries. For 25 years she ran a pantry where every Saturday she fed people in Central Park. Every. Saturday. She loved singing, dancing, & being with family. She was mother, grandma, & missionary. Gone too soon 🕊

A Tale of Two Wawas It's been both the best of times and worst of times for Democrats in Pennsylvania. We surveyed customers at two Wawas, one in deep red, financially anxious Lycoming County, the other in blue, affluent Chester County.

THREAD: In Sen. Patrick Leahy's new memoir, there's a wild story in it that I haven't ever seen before—a rare glimpse into the shadowy way that the intel agencies interact with Members of Congress. It feels ripped from a political thriller movie...: phoenixbooks.biz/book/978198215…

If the access to every road looked like this we would have so fewer pedestrian deaths in this country. It’s really not hard, folks.

In Python, variables & data structures don't "contain" objects: they "point", "bind", or "refer" to them. This is an important concept that's both easy to overlook and hard to internalize. (Thread) 🧵 Note: I'm treating value & object as synonyms. Same with variable & name.

WHY do we divide by n-1 when computing the sample variance? I've never seen this way of explaining this concept anywhere else. Read on if you want a completely new way of looking at this.
