We’re just gonna have to suck it up and throw $ at this problem in the short term. Or leave ourselves exposed to having key ingredients for the modern economy restricted by China.

I've become kind of obsessed with how to get the cost of personal aircraft down. Example: A new Cirrus SR22 costs around $1.1 million and weighs 1,111 kg without fuel. Call it $1,000/kg. A Tesla Model Y (long range AWD) costs around $50k and weighs around 1,980 kg. Call it

Healthcare and education as well . Two complex systems which are super important and where we spend a lot of money to get sub par outcomes

With the new NASA head Jared Isaacman coming in, and Department of Government Efficiency looking for input, here is my paper napkin plan for what I would do with NASA if I had a magic wand (disclosure: I will never have this power and nobody really cares what I think, but I love, and once worked for NASA)🧵

Aldous Huxley wrote in 1946 that solar, batteries, and PtX would be key to the decentralization of power, thus lasting world peace, after seeing what German engineers "accomplished" in WWII.

Started '25 waiting on a smaller battery to increase thrust to weight on my foam VTOL, v0.1. It should then be able to fly fully on its wings. In the meantime, I have begun designing v0.2. The goal is to gain better intuition for developing full scale eVTOLs, at speed. v0.2

Two phase immersion cooling liquids needs more players. It will likely by some fancy fluorinated molecule . With 3M stepping out , Honeywell spinning off their flurochem unit (distracted ??) , that leaves Chemours. There’s room for more

Great read about Nucor that commercialized EAFs. Like other new process technologies that saw success it met 1. Rising demand for product relative to supply 2. Incumbent process that has scale mismatch (or had high requirments) or was constrained and 3. Technology stack for new

here's the most basic supply chain to even start a robotics renaissance in america: upstream materials: rare earth separation + magnet manufacturing (sintering → machining → magnetization) (for high-torque motors) silicon carbide boule growth (for efficient power electronics)
