It’s amazing to hear the Tolkien Professor talk about Book V on the @prancingponypod - I feel like I’ve time-traveled to 2040 and listening to Exploring Lord of the Rings.
Closing up shop here: moving to @[email protected] on Mastodon/the Fediverse.
Okay so maybe I can't completely close up Twitter yet - still too many entities here that I follow. But still, @[email protected] on the 'verse. 'Verse: is that a thing?
#AtomicHabits by James Clear is about more than building good habits; it also has some powerful stuff to say about goals. Specifically, rather than set a weight loss goal, I'm asking myself, "What would a healthy person do here?" And I'm making small changes accordingly.
Hi Philips Hue, sorry to bug you guys. I tried calling support, but the automated system wouldn't work. I just bought a Signe Floor Lamp off Amazon, and it connects to my bridge just fine but the bulb doesn't seem to work. I'm legally blind. Please help. Thanks!
As a medievalist, I was thrilled to hear Cory Doctorow NONCONSENSUAL BLUE TICK use the term "Danegeld" on the #TWiT podcast.
Just caught up on Tolkien Professor's latest Exploring Lord of the Rings, and he talked about Tolkien using lots of plausible deniability: "it was as if...", "it was sung...", and so forth. Now I want to write a paper about Tolkien and Keats's "Negative Capability".
Everyone and their dog is starting a Substack, so I figured I would too. AI and the Revenge of the (Liberal Arts) Nerds open.substack.com/pub/artsai/p/a… Special thanks to Jeff (Gutenberg Parenthesis) Jarvis for helping me shape my thinking through his excellent books and podcasts.
