On a key discussion at #Somerset County Council today, which is looking at democracy in #Taunton and the surrounding areas, the ruling Lib Dems passed a motion to stop any further debate on the creation of a Town Council and the abolishment/shrinking of 4 parish councils.

🚌 Big win for Somerset's young people! The Conservatives at Somerset Council have successfully secured a commitment for an affordable and accessible county-wide bus pass for 16 to 25-year-olds.

This morning was spent at a Corporate & Resources Scrutiny Committee looking at the projected £28million overspend for this year. Lib-Dem run Somerset Council will need to take some difficult decision if they are to get this under control.

A very long Somerset full council meeting today where I asked the Lib Dems about their absurd decision to cut over 30% of the parking spaces in a Taunton car park which has resulted in a self inflicted annual financial loss of £173,000.

18 months ago Somerset County Council changed political leadership, the previous one having delivered balanced budgets and growing reserves for many years. Now the new administration is leading it to bankruptcy.

Cllr Dance is paid to attend important Council meetings like this. I took time off work to ensure I could vote, clearly he does not value the importance of the Council now his sights are set on higher things. If you don’t want to do the work, don’t take the pay.

What an unbelievable waste of time. A council that is massively in debt & struggling to get their finances into balance has surely better things to do than this. Especially when it turns out the whole thing was nonsense anyway.
