Water, water, making clean water.
We have just posted our work in progress on our photocatalytic water decontamination. Some work to go, but we are getting there.

Congratulations to Saba, Nastia and Neeraj on the publication of our decatungstate (DT) paper. The discovery of NIR phosphorescence becomes a powerful tool to understand DT reactivity and to design new catalytic processes.

Congratulations to Daliane, Melissa and Mahzad that in the last two weeks presented their research seminars and successfully defended their research proposals! Well done, and now just the thesis needs to be finished.
I am happy that NSERC treated me very well with my 5-year Discovery Grant renewal! I was afraid that age would play a role ... but no! Great to see that at NSERC science, education and diversity trumps age. Proud to continue to do NSERC-supported science & education.
Out CaC2 work is now published: doi.org/10.1002/slct.2…
Congrats Andrew & Anabel. Our TOC shows the ruins of the place in Gatineau, Quebec where "Carbide" Willson used to manufacture calcium carbide.
Congratulations to Julia, Nicole, Valerie and Carly on the presentation of their research/honours posters. Well done, and what an amazing group of enthusiastic students!
Celebrating end of the school year, a few research proposals and honours project, and a discovery grant. We will soon find other good reasons to eat and drink again.
Happy to learn that I will teach Photochemistry & Photobiology this fall. The first part will be cross-listed with CHM8310, the grad photochemistry course. The second half I will teach for the first time; I am looking forward to learning about the mysteries of light and life.
Today my tenure as Canada Research Chair ends after 21 years, 250 papers & nearly 200 coworkers. An amazing Canadian program! My favourite change? CRCs used to be “protected” from teaching. Today CRCs teaching includes undergraduate courses. I am proud to be part of that change.
Really nice article from Valencia on photocatalysis. They use a Luzchem laser flash photolysis (LFP) system they bought 20 years ago. Our LFP systems have unmatched longevity. Read the article at:

Luzchem new LES-L400-24 lamps offer excellent opportunities for irradiation at the intersection of UV and visible spectral regions for photoreactors and Expo panels. Get detailed specs at:

Luzchem photoreactors are the gold standard for irradiation throughout the UV and visible regions, as an interesting paper published in Langmuir shows: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…
Detailed exposure standards greatly facilitate photochemical research: luzchem.com/pages/exposure…
Luzchem's 2024 catalog [luzchem.com/pages/catalog] was launched at the Valencia IUPAC meeting. As usual Elda Scaiano's paintings enhanced the cover. In this case the Albufera was the appropriate choice. Beautiful place will memories of great meals at Planta Azul restaurant.
Just published. Congrats Melissa and Daliane on your paper on the two colour photochemical synthesis of Schiff bases using a magnetic catalyst. Well done!

Congratulations to Melissa Cely who defended successfully her doctoral thesis. your answers to the (numerous) questions showed enthusiasm, confidence and deep knowledge of your research. Well done!
