I wrote this six years ago. "We designed our cities for driving, and people are dying." Still relevant in Toronto, and most Canadian cities. Not so in London. Not so in Paris. These cities have undergone a transformative change. They have grabbed the bull by the horns and

This is a 435-mile cycle track that safely connects an entire region of Switzerland by bike. It would be like connecting Southern Maine to DC and all parts in between by bike. Let’s do it.

In 1969, 89% of kids aged 5-14 walked or biked to school if they lived within a mile. In 2009, only 13% walked or biked. Do you think parenting culture plays a large role in car culture? Or do you think parenting culture is car culture?

"Adding highway lanes to deal with traffic congestion is like loosening your belt to cure obesity." - Lewis Mumford in 1955. We’ve known this for a long time, but we’ve put massive money, space, time & energy into pretending we don’t know it. #InducedDemand #lawofcongestion

"I hear about another child who was killed, particularly by a taxi driver, I can’t describe the agony that I feel. I know this is a little irrational-I feel partially responsible. I feel I should have done more, I’m not doing enough, this shouldn’t happen again”- FSS Dana Lerner

France is spending $290M to make a 2,000-year-old city of 2 million people 100% bikeable by 2026. For comparison, this is slightly more than the cost of replacing two freeway interchanges in Berkeley, California.

We now have proof from traffic safety research that the zoning concept of mandated setbacks from the street increase the severity of traffic crashes on that street. Any street where the open space between buildings and trees is 60 feet or more, no one will drive under 30 mph.

We need to invest more into transportation options that works for everyone. We need more for sidewalks, for transit, and for people who want to access Texas and their local community in the way(s) that best meets THEIR transportation needs... #SupportTransportationOptions

"Despite bicycling being considered ten times more dangerous than driving, the evidence suggests that high-bicycling-mode-share cities are not only safer for bicyclists but for all road users."

Attn: #txlege We can give the children of Texas the freedom, joy, and health benefits of safe streets. This is something that we can fix here in Texas, with reasonable policy changes and smarter use of public funds and public right of way.

Hard to overstate how much of an improvement speed cameras are compared to police issuing tickets. Speed cameras are *way* more fair -- and also more reliable. theconversation.com/police-stop-mo…

These numbers are insane... automated enforcement basically wipes away racial differences in police stops. Without enforcement, on roads where half the drivers are Black, they make up about 70% of police stops! Drops to 54% when automatic cameras are in use.
