Residency is texting your friends and odd hours of the day/night and then they somehow respond bc they are also working odd hours of the day/night Or they don’t respond for days and it’s ok bc you do the same 😅 There is no in between

When your day was going ok until you walked into CT to hear the techs bragging and laughing about how much more money they make than the residents “by a long shot” …🥲 sigh

After 1400 operations and 8 years I completed my neurosurgery training. In some ways I was obsessed. Here are 9 lessons for the driven that I wish I knew when I was obsessively training and neglecting just about everything else:

The folks I rotated with as a third year med student on neurosurgery had a huge impact in me believing I could actually do this job. Encourage your med students!! It is life/career changing!!

Gosh I just love match day🥹 you go from watching year after year to getting to live this dream you’ve worked so hard for. What a feeling. I love it. Love seeing people get to experience it.

I just got my attending to describe a patient as “sus” on his own volition. This may be the best accomplishment of my PGY1 year. 😂
