It’s been five months since CAL, the The Associated Press, and Ian Urbina released reports on labor and environmental abuses in the Indian shrimp industry. Yet in that time, we have not seen evidence that the companies responsible for these harms are making real changes – 🧵

Rather, they seem to be disputing well-founded allegations or providing platitudes about how seriously they take the allegations. 😠

With the 2024 #GlobalShrimpForum taking place this week, we urge shrimp producing companies, suppliers, and buyers to take stock and consider how they plan to engage workers and communities and clean up their supply chains.

The workers peeling and deveining the shrimp in processing facilities and sheds across India, and the communities whose water supplies have been decimated by shrimp farms, deserve better – and a voice at the table.🦐🦐

We hope that companies use this forum to tackle these issues and begin to treat their workers with dignity and respect.
