Ryan K. Louie, MD, PhD Excluding R&D, the majority of COGS for a lot of stuff (not just medication) is in packaging and distribution. Combine with economies of scale, where more common packaging forms (dosages) run on more efficient lines, and you end up where COGS for 5mg dosage > 20mg dosage.
