The latest in our series visiting Rails AND Trails in construction around the country, The South Shore Line’s Monon Corridor! The Monon Corridor, also known as the West Lake Corridor, is an extension of Northern Indiana’s electrified commuter rail to the town of Munster.

The line is reactivating part of the abandoned Monon Railroad, which had since been repurposed as a walking/biking trail. With enough space along the reactivated corridor to accommodate both, the trail was repaved adjacent to the alignment with new bridges and underpasses.

After 5 years of construction, the Monon Corridor is expected to open in just a few short weeks as final testing along the line nears completion! #buildtheQueensLink
