The fire in #Silvertown followed a controlled explosion at a film set which spread out of control. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire, which is now under control. Crews will remain on scene for the remainder of the evening.

Following on BBC News (UK) reports of an ‘explosion’ by the #O2, see message below from Newham MPS | North East BCU police. It was part of planned pyrotechnics for a film in Newham London 💙 E16 this evening & I’m establishing why it no one was told it was happening. Look at the fright it’s caused.

Following a “planned” explosion during a filmshoot in Silvertown over the weekend – Newham Council will be working with our film office, and partners LFB Newham & @RoyalGreenwich to understand what led to the incident. No one was injured.

It’s welcome that the government has extended the Household Support Fund. This will enable councils to continue to support residents who need this vital lifeline.

My statement on the publication of the report from Phase 2 of the Grenfell Inquiry:

The final report from Grenfell Tower inquiry found the disaster was the culmination of “decades of failure” by governments and others in the construction industry. It sets out a ‘path to disaster’ stretching back to the early 1990s and criticises organisations at every level.

Today I speak directly to the bereaved families, the survivors, and those in the Grenfell community. On behalf of the British state: I am deeply sorry. My full statement.

We remember the 72 innocent lives lost in the Grenfell Tower tragedy. My thoughts are with the bereaved families, the survivors and residents in the immediate community. As Keir Starmer said, on behalf of the British state we apologise to each and every one of them.
