5yo daughter looking at bottle of soap: "look daddy it's the zebra bit for when you pay" Me: (barcode aficionado 😎) "that's called a barcode 😃" 5yo: "NO, IT'S CALLED A ZEBRA BIT!" Me: "Ok love" 🤣

This is an easy win that anyone can do... Get up early and nail some ugly or mundane tasks before 7am. You'll instantly feel like you've scored a win & that momentum will propel you through the rest of the day.

Don't get caught short when working on the move. My essential tools for remote productivity: - VPN with static IP. - Power bank. - Cable to tether phone. - Practical bag. - Krisp. - Bluetooth headphones. Bonus: keep duplicate chargers/cables in your bag so you can grab & go.

Pro Tip: don't mess up your prod database. Clumsy fingers, or a typo in a query could wreak havoc on your database. If you must directly access your prod db to do your job, most of the time a read-only user (or even better a read-only replica) will do what you need.

Every time I have to use the PayPal documentation I remember how utterly awful it is. It's been terrible for at least 15 years. Incomplete, inconsistent, terrible search. Honestly it's crazy for a business of it's scale.

It drives me crazy when people do this... ... finding a workaround to something that's broken, but not telling anyone about the problem. You see this a lot in operations, where the workaround just becomes the process. Even if it is massively inefficient. Always feed back!

Pet hate as a technologist- when users claim the system spontaneously did something, particularly when that something would involve magically creating or changing some kind of data that could only be provided by a human! 🤦🏻‍♂️

This is a great hack to beat procrastination: Time blocking. We procrastinate to avoid doing something we're dreading, or because we have so much to do it's overwhelming. Tackle it by blocking out time in your calendar for specific tasks. It keeps your todo's realistic too.

Don't make this common mistake... People think they need to find motivation to start getting things done. But it's the other way around. Start doing the work & you'll feel motivated.

I was about to post a little rant about a frustrating problem that just ate 5 hours of my day. But I came on here and this was at the top of my timeline ... instantly swallowed a big dose of perspective. Be grateful for every day 🙏

SPF, DKIM, DMARC. Acronym overload 🤯 It's difficult to understand and explain how email works 'under the hood' but I saw this guide that does a really good job of explaining it in simpler terms, so thought it worth sharing. github.com/nicanorflavier…

This one is a throwback - ICQ. Way ahead of it's time - launched 27 years ago! Reminds me of the old days enjoying the blazing fast speeds of a Pentium 2 processor and 56k modem 😁 Free internet after 6pm!

Are you measuring progress wrong? We typically try to measure progress in a linear way (eg. x% done), but that's rarely how things go in reality. The guys at 37 Signals came up with a hill chart and it's an interesting way to look at this problem basecamp.com/hill-charts
