As we embarked on reviving Ravenswood, we were fortunate to spend considerable time with the brand’s founder, Joel Peterson. To hear his stories firsthand, get a taste of his winemaking philosophy, and of course, talk shop about old vines, was nothing short of magical.

The Dry Creek Valley is the most renowned region for Zinfandel in Sonoma County, and perhaps all of California. Just two miles wide and 16 miles long, it’s a small but special place, with a dynamic range of elevations, micro-climates, and soil types.

“My favorite part of this project is having a small, focused collection of single-vineyard wines—including two from the same sites that Joel used originally—crafted to show the refinement and distinction of Zinfandel."

MacMurray Ranch, situated in the heart of the Russian River Valley, is planted primarily to Pinot Noir due to its relatively cool climate. Founder Joel Peterson worked extensively with Russian River Valley fruit, making this wine something of an homage to our early origins.
