Octavia Butler’s novel of dystopian realism, *Parable of the Sower*, is set in 2024. The novel is set in our now — and it’s a prescient reminder that the future is in our hands.

Every Fourth of July I think about what colonial militias did to Cherokees in the summer of 1776. They waited until it was too late in the growing season for our corn to be replanted, invaded Cherokee towns and burnt our crops to the ground. So that we would starve. #July4

Lots of amazing folks have just started new faculty jobs, and it's prompted me to reflect on the last 5 years of my TT experience. So here are 15 lessons I wish I'd learned earlier as an academic:

Post affirmative action, the already abysmal numbers of Native students at some elite colleges have plummeted even further. At Harvard, Native enrollment fell by half. At Princeton it fell from less than 1% to 0.1% of admitted students from the class of 2027 to the class of 2028.

If you are not a 2spirit person and you are just learning about QL Driskill…I wanna ask that you please think before posting jokes about the situation. Some things to consider, not because I care about pretendians but bc I care about harm to real 2spirit people:

Waiting until after the election to maybe, possibly limit arms shipments to Israel is cowardice. I agree that our democracy is under threat from fascism. I also believe that defeating fascism (this election and beyond) requires brave leadership. This isn it.
