Some great letters in the Times today.

Earlier this week we submitted to the Reem Alsalem UNSR Violence Against Women and Girls consultation on #surrogacy. We explored obstetric violence, body autonomy, humans rights, child abuse and how the messaging of surrogacy enforces damaging stereotypes on women and girls (& this isn’t good for men and boys either).

This is particularly misogynistic: Around 60-80% of lobotomies in the West were performed on women (yes the REAL kind) for not conforming to their gender role. Many were lesbians.

An LGB event is long overdue in Ireland. Some great speakers lined up!

For gender non-conforming lesbians' safety & inclusion in female-only spaces, we need to expand our visions of what a woman looks like, not expand the category of woman to include males! Gender non-conforming lesbians also deserve spaces free from males! TRAs, stop tokenising us!

The word 'Feminism' was hijacked & used to mean its opposite, just as 'woman', 'mother', 'lesbian' & all the other 'female' words were hijacked. Don't blame feminism for what's been done in its name by those who stole it. I won't relinquish 'feminism' any more than 'woman'.
