Today I announced my decision to veto legislation that would end water fluoridation in Miami-Dade, following the guidance of dentists & medical experts. Our community's health is my top priority, and the experts affirm fluoride as a safe, effective way to protect dental health.

I am deeply disappointed by the Florida Legislature’s vote to ban fluoride from tap water, a decision that disregards the guidance of dentists, doctors, and medical experts. Ending fluoridation will have long-lasting impact on health—especially for our most vulnerable families.

I am deeply saddened by today’s Supreme Court ruling to uphold the decision to end humanitarian parole for some migrants – putting at risk over half a million people and thousands of Miami-Dade families who followed a legal process to escape persecution and build a better life.

The people of Miami-Dade have long stood for justice, freedom, and compassion. I’m urging Congress to act now and give TPS recipients permanent protection and a pathway to legal status. This is not just about immigration—it’s about dignity, economic stability & moral leadership.

Troubling news continues to come out of the state-run facility dubbed Alligator Alcatraz, all on land owned by Miami-Dade taxpayers and commandeered by the state. I am urgently following up on my request to FL Division of Emergency Management for immediate access and more transparency. My letter:

I welcome the court’s decision to halt construction at Alligator Alcatraz—an overdue and necessary step—as major concerns persist about conditions on site and environmental impacts. I’ll continue pushing for transparency and accountability to protect our community & environment.

Residents asked us to protect arts and culture, community programs, parks, and services for our most vulnerable—and we listened. Today I presented an updated budget proposal that includes $66M in additional funding to restore important community priorities.

Tonight’s ruling is a victory for home rule and human dignity—and represents justice for those who faced unimaginable hardship. Grateful to all the advocates and residents who never stopped raising their voices and whose persistence made this outcome possible.
