Today we've launched our book "Atlas of Fourier Transforms". It has been a two year passion project led by Miti Shah, a student in our lab. It is uniquely comprehensive and suitable as a coffee table book or advanced research reference. The full pitch is on Kickstarter.

"Quantum mechanics is just thermodynamics in imaginary time." It sounds like a hand-wavy, quasi-philosophical statement. But with a brief dive into the relationship(s) between hyperbolic and parabolic PDEs, it becomes possible to formalize it mathematically. (1/16)

1. Hot off the press! Our paper “Indirect measurement of atomic magneto-optical rotation via Hilbert transform” doi.org/10.1088/1361-6… In this thread I shall explain how useful Hilbert transforms are for processing laser absorption spectra

Where is the optical axis? Finding it can be critical to building microscopes. Here's the back reflections at ~15cm from a collimated ~1mm⌀ 532nm laser aligned into the back of Nikon 40x0.95 air objective. Radially symmetric/concentric interference rings indicate good alignment.

This paper demonstrates for the first time that the molten salt can be a media to synthesize quantum dots. This paper also presents the first luminescent colloidal GaAs quantum dot. Redox chemistry is a powerful tool to achieve this nice materials! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Speaking of mathematical consistency. While you want a physical theory to be mathematically consistent, it's not necessary for it to be useful. The standard model without the Higgs eg violates unitary beyond a certain energy. That's not consistent. It's still a useful theory to

A first-order, disorder-driven, superconductor–insulator phase transition is demonstrated. This is in contrast with the usually observed second-order transition and highlights the role of Coulomb interactions between preformed Cooper pairs. nature.com/articles/s4156…

A lens can perform the Fourier transform! 🔍 This is the 4F system: the first lens converts an image into its frequency components, and the second lens reconstructs it. By adding an aperture at the Fourier plane, we can filter out high frequencies. #Optics #Physics #b3d
