In 2023 we implemented our free bulky waste collection service, allowing every Harrow household to have one free bulky waste collection per year (of up to 4 items). Harrow is one of the only London boroughs to offer this free service and it has proven very popular with residents.

Last night, work began on resurfacing and upgrading the roads and parking spaces around Rayners Lane town centre in preparation for the new Red Route. The Red Route will crackdown on dangerous double parking and new restrictions will prevent excessive moped parking.

We have started the process to implement Article 4 Directions on HMOs for up to 6 people, which will then require planning permission, giving the Council more control over conversions of family homes into HMOs. Currently planning permission is only required on HMOs for 7+ people.

In June we launched a new Grimebusters service, dedicated to cleaning graffiti and flyposting across Harrow. The latest figures show that since June the Grimebusters have cleaned over 6,200 square metres of graffiti and vandalism. We will keep Harrow clean!

Since April we have held 8 Days and Nights of intense enforcement action, where the Council works with the Police, Trading Standards and other agencies to target antisocial behaviour hotspot areas. This boosts our routine enforcement operations to keep Harrow clean and safe.

In April we set a target to fully resurface 68 roads this financial year. We have already resurfaced 67 roads, so we are now planning to renew an extra 22 roads before the end of March. This means we are aiming to have fully resurfaced 89 local roads this financial year.

Yet more evidence, as if we needed it, that the Chancellor must be sacked. For months Reeves has lied to the public to justify record tax hikes to pay for more welfare. Her Budget wasn’t about stability. It was about politics: bribing Labour MPs to save her own skin. Shameful.

We are renewing footpaths across Harrow. We have already achieved our target of 38 footpaths resurfaced this year, so we have expanded out project to resurface a further 13 footpaths by the end of the financial year.

We are tackling illegal parking in Harrow. Since starting in October, our car towing scheme has impounded over 135 vehicles which had multiple unpaid parking fines. Collectively, the Council has collected £39,600 in unpaid parking fines and fees from these penalty dodgers.

In next year’s budget we will be investing an extra £223,000 into Harrow’s street cleaning team. This will employ more street cleaners as well as funding new machinery to deep clean pavements in our town centres and high streets.
