Beautiful Sea Rocket, you returned to Imani and us your perfect self. Four little chicks you brought into this world and we are learning from each of them in different ways. Safe travels, dear girl. See you next summer! 📸: Kevin Lin (Sea Rocket, July 3, 2024)

Zippin Pippin Oh, Pippin, you touched down on Montrose Beach on World Migratory Bird Day (what timing!) and our hearts immediately grew. Thank you for summering with us. Safe travels! See you next summer! 📸: Liam Francis Shanley (Pippin, Chicago, July 12, 2024)

Four decades of dead birds at McCormick place, numbering in the tens of thousands, gave their lives to save future generations of birds. What took so long?

Your Chicago PIPL Monitors 🧡 continue their shifts and are happy to take your questions! Their duties include judging Nagamo's reactions to crowds. If monitors ask you to give our little one more space, we appreciate you following that direction. 🤍 Pictured: Gaerin and Grace

Nagamo's graduation pictures arrived! Here's a favorite! Help us graduate more fledglings from Montrose for years to come. Your consideration of a $10 donation to our Chicago Piping Plover Fund is appreciated! Link in 2/2. 1/2 📸: Tamima Itani (Nagamo, August 9, 2024)

Sanderling? Piping Plover? Sanderlings are common to see in September, Plovers are not. Sanderlings usually hang out in groups running back and forth from the waves, Plovers do not. Sanderlings breed in the High Arctic, 2000+ miles away, Plovers breed right here on our beaches!

How perfect that the illustrator of plovermother 's 2 children's books should share this story as @birdlife_hoodie kicks off Plover Appreciation Day?! The theme this year is storytelling, using science and creative writing to inspire people to care about the environment. 1/6

We're glad you asked! Bird tape can look different, but essentially it is a roll of tape that marks up the exterior of windows to cue birds that the glass is a barrier. Birds will not try to fly through windows that have markers spaced no more than 2 x 2 inches apart.
