“If he weren’t such a bastard and a threat, you’d have to marvel at Trump’s ability to turn adversity into opportunity. Actually, you can marvel anyway.” Peter Hoskin on the man who emerges from Meridith McGraw’s TRUMP IN EXILE: prospectmagazine.co.uk/culture/67971/…

Looking forward to announcing—eek!—the Baillie Gifford Prize shortlist this evening, and discussing world-changing books with Johanna Thomas-Corr and Toby Mundy. It’s already sold out, so there’s no hope for the ticketless. But I’m sure there’ll be some way of catching up. cheltenhamfestivals.org/events/the-boo…

I enjoyed my chat with Johanna Thomas-Corr and Toby Mundy last week – and enjoyed writing it up, too. Click below for my thoughts on self-help books and the other non-fiction literature we ignore.

If you want to understand how Trump got here today, might I recommend Meridith McGraw’s TRUMP IN EXILE, which I reviewed here: prospectmagazine.co.uk/culture/67971/…

And if you’d like to hear me talk about the shortlist and the whole judging process with Hannah MacInnes, tune into Times Radio at 2100 this evening!

🗓️ Join us to hear Lionel Barber discuss his new book ‘Gambling Man’, the biography of one of the world’s least known but most consequential investors. He speaks to our Books and Culture Editor, Peter Hoskin: eventbrite.co.uk/e/lionel-barbe…

This was indeed an enjoyable conversation! Not least because Leor Zmigrod's THE IDEOLOGICAL BRAIN – about the amazing neuroscience of our beliefs – is surely one of the books of the year.

They don't do star ratings in the New Scientist, but if they did, I'd have awarded ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ to tiffany jenkins's history of the rise and fall of privacy, STRANGERS AND INTIMATES. Read my review in the latest issue: newscientist.com/article/mg2663…
