"The biosecurity landscape is shifting fast" notes Eloise Todd as we kick Pandemic Action Network & The Independent Panel session at #WHA78 to discuss the nexus of #biosecurity and #HealthSecurity in the era of pandemics & #AI. "Let's discuss opportunities to prioritize policies & investments."

“Let’s not forget: #mpox vaccines—still in short supply in Africa, where mpox is endemic—were originally commissioned for U.S. biodefense in case of a smallpox bioterror attack,” notes Helen Clark, highlighting the deep links between biosecurity and global health equity. #WHA78

“At the The Pandemic Fund, we’re investing in strengthening #biosecurity capacities at the country level,” says Priya Basu, highlighting grants that support lab security and other critical areas to enhance pandemic prevention and preparedness #WHA78

“We must bring the private sector in as a core partner—they have strong incentives to protect proprietary knowledge from misuse,” says Dr. Raj Panjabi, adding that cross-sectoral #biosecurity policies and international coordination are also very much needed. #WHA78

“When the IHR were amended in 2005, they adopted an all-hazards approach,” says Helen Clark. “We must avoid confusing, siloed international regulations. What we need is comprehensive, coordinated coverage to prevent & prepare for threats—without duplication or confusion” #WHA78

We are pleased to join global leaders at the #WHA78 side event "Biosecurity: A Priority in the Era of Pandemics and AI." BWC-ISU Chief, Daniel Feakes, contributed to discussions alongside: Helen Clark | Priya Basu Dr. Raj Panjabi | Richard Hatchett | Wolfgang Philipp | Eloise Todd
